RIP Andy Irons

November 2, 2010

Just read on Facebook and Twitter that 3X World Champion Andy Irons has passed away en-route home to Hawaii  after contracting Dengue Fever while in Portugal. I am just crushed by this news and in complete shock. You were the 1st pro surfer I’ve ever met and my favorite. I just can’t believe you are gone.

My thoughts go out to the Irons family, to his wife Lyndie and unborn baby boy.

The surfing world has suffered a great loss today. Andy Irons was only 32 years old. Last year, Andy Irons quit the World Tour race but was given a Wild Card position this year to come back on Tour. To the delight of the surfing world, AI came back and show his true talent and performance. AI still got it by winning this year’s Billabong Pro Tahiti and even met arch-rival Kelly Slater in the semi-finals.

Worse news ever, I can’t even write.  To say this is a shock is a complete understatement. We will miss you greatly Andy. I’m sooo glad that I got to meet you in person. You are one of the nicest surfers ever and full of great talent. You will live on in our memories. I’m really going to miss those Slater vs AI heats 😦
